We will be meeting at 6 pm on April 8 at the Maeser School Apartments Commons Room. It has been two years since Tom DeForest was elected. The term is for a minimum two years, so even though he resigned a year ago it is now time for a new election.

Maeser Neighborhood Meetings are usually at the firehouse on 3rd South and 7th east, every 2nd Tuesday at 6 pm.

Maeser will be participating with Joaquin’s Paint Your Heart Out on Saturday, June 7th.  We will be meeting at 8 am at Farrer Elementary and then going over to Jon and Mishel Stonely’s house at 122 South 200 East.  Come prepared to help paint and have a lot of fun.

The two children who died in a car accident in Provo Canyon last Sunday were from Maeser Neighborhood and lived on 300 South.  There is a viewing (closed casket) tonight at 6:00 pm in Springville.  If you would like to donate to the family to help defray the funeral expenses, please go either to Washington Mutual’s local branch downtown or to Farrer Elementary School this Friday morning in the office, where they will be gathering contributions.  Jennifer Lopez was a third grade student in Mrs. Burt’s class at Farrer, and Daniel was in Miss Crane’s class in first grade.

May’s Neighborhood Meeting will be on Wednesday, May 9th, at 6:00 pm at the firehouse on 3rd South and 7th East.

Good news! This Monday the 17th at 11AM Rural Housing Development will be break ground for the remaining lots at Maeser.

Mobile Watch is having another round of new member training.  It will be held on March 18th at 7:00 pm in the Provo PD Training Room.  People planning to attend must RSVP by the Sunday before.  This meeting is held on an as-needed basis.  So if there is not enough people scheduled to attend the training will be canceled.  So please don’t plan on just showing up to the meeting.

It is helpful if the paperwork is received in advance.  I can get the paperwork to you or you can download it from the website. Each person needs a handbook, application and background check paper.

Officer Kenkel reported that web cameras are coming as a law enforcement tool.

• Currently there is one on the trail
• Mobile volunteers will be able to watch from home.
• The program is in it’s very early stages and there is no timeline for when we will see the first one in Maeser. Initial plans indicate using it to monitor high graffiti targets.

There was a drug bust at a residence near the Hillams and Patricks (I didn’t catch the address, can you add that to the comments Sariah?) They were made aware of the problem when the CI unit had drug buys there.

There are no deadbolts on apartment doors in Maeser Apartments. There have been problems with residents entering other residents apartments. Tom will contact Doug Carlson about getting locks installed.

Stop signs/calming devices

• We are looking into getting a stop or yield sign posted at the intersection of 50 S 750 E.
• 400 S 400 E could also use some sort of calming device for the speedy traffic that blows through there.

Reminder that sidewalks need to be shoveled – it really improves safety in our neighborhood. Tom will contact the city about including a note about shoveling in the utility newsletter that goes out every month.

Tom and Sariah are meeting with Kathryn Allen from community outreach about updating the Maeser Mural. The mural was not sealed properly before and is beginning to flake.

The speculation can end now. UDOT has spoken. No frontage roads for I-15. Reconstruction of Provo’s Center Street and a reconfiguation of the UVU/Parkway exits.http://www.udot.utah.gov/i15utahcounty/index.phpOPTION D’ IS UDOT’S PREFERRED OPTION FOR THE PROVO-OREM AREA OF I-15UDOT has decided to proceed in preparing the FEIS with ‘Option D’ as the Preferred Option in the Provo-Orem area. ‘Option D’ consists of a flyover for the I-15 southbound exit to University Parkway eastbound, a direct connection to UVSC from the I-15 northbound exit at University Parkway, and total reconstruction of the Provo Center Street interchange. Please refer to the Utah County Interactive Map available on this website for more detail.The decision to select ‘Option D’ as the Preferred Option in the Provo-Orem area is based upon comments received from federal and state agencies, local governments, and the general public; and the needs along the I-15 Corridor, while minimizing environmental impacts. A detailed explanation and discussion of the impacts will be included in the FEIS. A final decision will not be made until approval of the FEIS and the Record of Decision (ROD) is signed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).NEXT STEPS

• UDOT will prepare a response to all DEIS comments in the FEIS.
• Based on the comments received and the technical analysis in the DEIS, FHWA will select a preferred alternative.
• A FEIS will be prepared that describes the selected alternative and addresses comments received.
• A Record of Decision (ROD) will be prepared that formalizes the selection of a preferred alternative and concludes the NEPA process.
